Angela Lyons wins the 2018 George Mernagh Memorial Fund Bursary

The successful recipient of the 2018 George Mernagh Memorial Fund Bursary was announced at the conclusion of the Tattersalls International Horse Trials 2018 today. Event Director, Jean Mitchell, MBE and Tattersalls Ireland Managing Director, Roger Casey presented winner, Angela Lyons from Blarney in Co. Cork with her €5,000 bursary in front of a large audience on the final day of the international event.
Angela is a hardworking and dedicated Dressage Rider who now competes as a Grade 1V Para Equestrian Rider, and her ambition is to represent Ireland at the Paralympics at Tokyo.
She is a Level 2 HSI Coach and a List 5 Dressage Judge, training riders at all levels from Grass Roots to Advanced and has competed successfully up to Prix St. Georges level, winning many Dressage Ireland Championships. Due to Rheumatoid Disease, she is now riding “Para Equestrian” Dressage, at Grade 1V level.
Angela has a NEW horse, which is already competing successfully at both Regional and National competitions, and she now feels ready to go International, having gained the necessary qualifying scores.
Her 1stcompetition this year will be the CPED 3 Star at Bishop Burton, hopefully using this as a ‘stepping stone’ to competing at the 2019 European Para Championships.
The award of the 2018 George Mernagh Memorial Bursary will be put towards training, travel and competition expenses to gain more International experience at 3 Star level.
The George Mernagh Memorial Fund Limited, a not for profit entity, was established in memory of the late George Mernagh who had a lifetime passion in equestrian sports and who was committed to developing these at Tattersalls Ireland.
