The annual GMMF bursary was set up in memory of the late George Mernagh who had a lifelong interest in equestrian sports and was devoted to developing these at Tattersalls Ireland. The €5,000 bursary is intended to support an applicant, from course designer/builder to competitor to instructor, to develop or further establish their career in the eventing industry. This payment is intended to assist with associated costs, over a defined period, of pursuing an equestrian career.

Former winning recipient of the GMMF bursary, Emma Golding, has part used the funding to travel to represent Ireland at the FEI World Championships for Drivers with Disabilities, which was held in the Netherlands and secured a Top 10 placing. The remainder of her funding is being used to promote opportunities for other people with spinal cord injuries and to encourage them to get involved in the sport of carriage driving. Previous winners also include Michelle Kenny, Cathal Daniels and Ian Cassells to name but a few.

Tattersalls Ireland Managing Director Roger Casey commented: “George is the reason that the Tattersalls International Horse Trials exists today, and we are honoured to have seen it grow into such a successful event. This bursary carrying George’s name can go a long way towards helping applicants achieve their goals.”

The closing date for 2017 GMMF bursary applications is Friday, 19th May 2017.  Applications must adhere with the terms set out below. The winner will be presented with their €5,000 bursary on Sunday, 4th June.
